About Kung Fu (WUZUQUAN)
Wuzuquan or Five Ancestors’ Fist is said to have originated in 18th century China in the province of Fujian by a royal member of the Ming Dynasty who became a monk called Wu Sin. He taught the art of Taizuquan (Grand Ancestor's Fist) producing a lot of highly trained martial artists where the art became well known throughout China.
Wuzuquan was developed by a great grand disciple of Wu Sin called Li Jun-Ren who categorized what he learned into five main styles and started teaching them to many students.
These are Taizuquan (Grand Ancestor's Fist), Lo Han Quan (Immortal Fist), Pai He Quan (White Crane Fist), Hou Quan (Monkey Fist) and Shuen Ni Quan (Soft Fist). Eventually all the good points of these five styles he taught were integrated to form a single style, which he named Wuzuquan (The Five Ancestor's Fist). Li Jun-Ren passed on his art to his disciples who continued to actively propagate the art of Wuzuquan in China and overseas (especially in Southeast Asia).
One of the philosophies of Wuzuquan is to teach students according to their own individual strength and body type. Wuzuquan is an effective and practical means of self-defense that uses close combat techniques.
These techniques utilize forms that are practical and straightforward. Any individual can learn the techniques to develop (1) Stability - proper body structure; (2) Strength - develop internal strength; (3) Speed - mental as well as physical; (4) Adaptability - ability to change; (5) Softness - not weakness, emphasis on coiling movements.
A variety of traditional Chinese Weapons techniques are also taught including Staff, Broadsword, Spear, Straight sword and many others! San Shou teaches you how to use a wide array of full contact punching, kicking, takedowns and throws derived from this traditional application of Chinese Martial Arts.
Students and enthusiasts of Martial Arts choose our programs for many reasons. Some are drawn to the physical fitness and weight-loss aspects of training. Others seek to add discipline and self control to their lives, while still others are concerned about safety and self-defense.
Whether you are interested in training for mental or physical well being, Taiji Kung Fu Academy offers a number of programs that will fit your developmental needs and your busy schedule, as well.
